Hermosa Beach Crime Reports for 2004

FRAUD. An unknown person reportedly used a woman's ATM card to purchase goods and make withdrawals of more than $3,000 between Oct. 26 and Dec. 1. The woman reported the incident Jan. 10 after she received her bank statement in the mail. The woman believes she left the card in a coin purse in a public telephone book in early October.

IDENTITY THEFT. An unknown person reportedly used a Hermosa Beach woman's Social Security number and name to open up an AT&T account. The woman contacted a collection agency that sent her a bill of about $40 in the mail. The woman told the representative with the agency she has never opened an account with AT&T.

BURGLARY. A few items stored in a garage in the 500 block of Herondo Street were reportedly stolen between Dec. 17 and Dec. 20. The victim told police he used to live in a townhouse in the area with a garage attached to the home on the bottom level. While he was in the process of moving to Palm Springs, the man left a box containing items valued at $150. The items went missing out of the garage.

ANNOYING PHONE CALLS. A man living in the 700 block of Palm Drive reportedly has received annoying phone calls between 5 p.m. Dec. 4 and 7 p.m. Jan. 10. The man has received the calls off and on during the time period and as many as three in one night. Nothing is ever said but they have become annoying and the man is concerned for his safety. He suspects his girlfriend's ex-husband since he began e-mailing and calling him at work three weeks ago.

ATTEMPTED GRAND THEFT. A set of tire rims from a 1979 Mercedes were reportedly almost stolen in the 100 block of Lyndon Street Jan. 10 at 12:50 a.m. A neighbor walked outside with the trash and saw a man with a car jack near the car that was parked in a carport. The man was last seen walking east on Herondo Street with the car jack.

Hermosa Beach - Crime Watch (1/6)

BURGLARY. A car parked in the 600 block of Seventh Street was reportedly burglarized between midnight and 7:40 a.m. Dec. 30. The victim parked the car in her driveway and locked it. She had left an empty purse on the front floorboard. She returned to find the front passenger window had been broken and the purse valued at $30 was missing. The estimated cost to fix the window is $300.

TRESPASSING. A woman reportedly trespassed onto her former husband's property in the 700 block of Longfellow Avenue Dec. 26 at 1:15 p.m. The victim and his ex-wife are in the middle of a long custody battle over their young son. The woman came over to the victim's home and demanded her son who was supposed to be delivered to her at 4 p.m. The victim's girlfriend answered the door, and she left the woman outside and locked the door while she told the victim. The victim then answered the door and the suspect pushed her way into the house. The victim told her to leave and she refused so the man began videotaping the encounter. On the video, the woman is sitting on the victim's couch, and he asks her to leave five times and she refuses. When the victim said he was going to go get a neighbor to witness the incident, the suspect said she would leave and did so. The victim is adamant about prosecution and told police, "She had done this too many times."

BURGLARY. A car parked in a private driveway in the 600 block of Ardmore was reportedly burglarized between 8 p.m. Dec. 29 and 7:30 a.m. Dec. 30. The victim told police she parked and locked her car, and returned to find her convertible top had been cut with a sharp object like a razor. She discovered two personal checks and her cell phone valued at $130 were missing. The estimated damage to the car's top is $1,500.

USE OF ACCESS CARD. A debit card belonging to a woman from Washington who was visiting Hermosa Beach was fraudulently used at a gas station in Los Angeles Dec. 31 at 1:30 a.m. The woman was at a bar with friends in Los Angeles when they all took a cab to Santa Monica. Just as soon as the woman got out of the taxicab, she realized that she left her purse in the car. She continued to where she was staying on Herondo Street in Hermosa Beach to call her bank and cancel the card. During the conversation, the bank informed her that the card had been used at a 76 gas station in Los Angeles. Also inside the purse was her identification, $120 in cash and lipstick.

BURGLARY. A 1999 BMW parked in a private parking space in the 400 block of Monterey Boulevard was reportedly burglarized between 9:30 p.m. Dec. 21 and 11 a.m. Dec. 22. The victim parked his car and returned the next day to find that his convertible top had been cut with a sharp object. The cost to fix the top is about $1,500.

Hermosa Beach - Crime Watch (12/30)

HOTEL ROBBERY. A man was arrested for robbing a person at gunpoint at a hotel in the 1300 block of The Strand Dec. 25 at around 2:50 a.m. Officers broadcast the description of the man and the car he was driving over the radio to other nearby police departments. A Redondo Beach officer spotted the truck heading south on Pacific Coast Highway from Pier Avenue. The officer attempted to stop the truck but the man failed to stop for several blocks. The man finally stopped, whereupon the officer arrested him. Police found a replica gun in the truck, the suspect's wallet and a sweatshirt the suspect was wearing at the time of the incident. Police discovered the truck had been stolen from the Long Beach area. Officers also found property from a Redondo Beach resident who told police he had been a victim of a robbery in Torrance several days earlier. Since the crime occurred in Hermosa Beach, officers from that city took the man into custody.

GARAGE BURGLARY. A garage in the 1000 block of Third Street was reportedly burglarized between 3 p.m. Dec. 27 and 8:15 a.m. Dec. 28. The victim told police he drove his car into his driveway and parked it there. He then exited it and walked into the garage in which the door was already open. Before exiting the garage through a rear door that leads to the house, the victim activated the remote to close the garage door, but the car had blocked the remote sensor so the garage never closed. The next day he noticed articles on the shelf had been moved around and some items missing.

STOLEN 'COKE' FURNITURE. A man reportedly stole a Coca-Cola table and two bar stools from outside a drug store in the 700 block of Pier Avenue at 9:47 p.m. Dec. 22. An employee from the store told police he went outside to retrieve some of the display items on the sidewalk in front of the store and saw the suspect loading the items into his car. The employee told him to stop. The suspect then pulled out two boxes containing the bar stools from the car and jumped inside. The car also contained two other suspects.

STOLEN CABLE. About 250 feet worth of welding cable was reportedly stolen from a business in the 400 block of Pacific Coast Highway between 5 p.m. Dec. 24 and 7:30 a.m. Dec. 27. The owner told police that someone had to take part of the cable from an unsecured storage box in a parking lot at the rear of the business Dec. 23 but he didn't report the crime because he thought if he secured the box it would deter future thefts. He instead placed seven wood crates on top of the storage box after securing its lid with screens. The victim left the business knowing the cable was secure, and returned to the business to find the wood crates were on the ground and the rest of the cable worth about $500 was missing.

Hermosa Beach - Crime Watch (12/23)

ALANO CLUB ATTACK. A woman who works as a server at the Alano Club in the 700 block of 11th Place was reportedly attacked by a woman Dec. 9 at 7:15 p.m. The woman told police she was leaving work and standing on the club's porch when the suspect came charging through the door and stated, "Stay away from my boyfriend!" As the suspect said it, she grabbed the victim by the throat with both hands and threw her to the ground. The victim struck her right elbow, shoulder, back and head when she fell to the ground. After the victim fell, the suspect fled the scene. The victim told police the suspect is dating her former boyfriend and she has had no contact with her prior to the incident.

LOST/STOLEN CASH. A man vacationing in California from Pittsburgh either lost or was pickpocketed out of $1,800 in cash in the 700 block of Pier Avenue Dec. 13 between 3:30 and 3:45 p.m. The man told police he kept the sum of cash in large denominations in a white envelope in his back pocket as the shopped for groceries at a nearby market. The man pulled out the envelope to pay for his goods and put it back in his rear pocket. He left the store and got into his car, which is when he noticed the envelope missing. He retraced his steps back to the store and the checkstand but was unable to find it. He is not sure if someone stole it from him or if the envelope fell out of his pocket.

DOWNTOWN ALTERCATION. A man was knocked unconscious when a group of men reportedly attacked him in the 100 block of 14th Street Dec. 19 at 12:48 a.m. An officer who was stationed at a nearby pedestrian stop heard people yelling from an area west of him. He turned and saw multiple subjects fighting. When he responded, he found the victim lying on the ground unconscious. The group of suspects fled the scene and two were later detained with one being arrested for the incident following a positive identification by the witness. The victim eventually regained consciousness and did not know what had happened or who hit him. The witness to the incident told police she met the victim at a nearby bar. While inside, she had been involved in a verbal argument with the unknown subjects and as a result, the witness, victim and subjects were escorted onto the street. The victim and witness began walking when they were approached by the suspects who began yelling obscenities at the woman which she couldn't remember. The victim then stepped in front of her, and one of the suspects punched him in the face and he fell to the ground. One of the other men then kicked him in the head at least once and it was then that the witness noticed he was unconscious.

CHURCH BURGLARY. A car parked in a church lot in the 700 block of 11th Street was reportedly burglarized Dec. 19 between 9:40 and 9:51 a.m. The woman locked her car and went inside the church. She left her purse on the front seat of the car. She told police that she noticed a suspicious man walking in and around the parking lot. She saw the man standing next to her car but didn't see him break in. The woman returned to her car about 10 minutes later to find the car's right rear window was broken and her purse with her wallet inside was gone. The items stolen included several credit cards, the woman's driver's license and Social Security number for a total value of $410.

IDENTITY THEFT. An unknown person reportedly opened a credit card account that was fraudulently co-signed by a woman living in Hermosa Beach in June 2004. The woman reported the incident Dec. 13 after she contacted her credit card company to make a change to her account. The company, MBNA, informed her of a delinquency with her credit card history regarding a card in her name with Chase National Bank. The account was in her name as well as someone else's and she is responsible for the debt because she co-signed for the account. The bills were sent to her old dorm room at USC and the last known activity on it was in August 2004. The current amount owed is about $1,700. The company refused to divulge any more information because it said the account was not hers.

Hermosa Beach - Crime Watch (12/16)

MAIL THEFT. A sweater delivered in a UPS box and valued at $94 was reportedly stolen from a home in the 1200 block of 20th Street between Nov. 15 at 4:24 p.m. and Nov. 16 at 9 a.m. One of the victim's neighbors noticed the ripped UPS box addressed to the victim in her trash. The victim placed an order from the Pendleton catalog and was expecting the package.

DINE AND DASH. A group of six people reportedly left a restaurant in the 1000 block of Pacific Coast Highway with only partially paying for their food Dec. 1 at 11:14 p.m. A waiter, who served the group of suspects, told police he left the bill on their table as they finished up their meals. He noticed one by one, the suspects left out the front door. He noticed they didn't leave enough change to cover the bill and ran outside after them. He saw the group get into a white van and drive east on 10th Street. The van stopped due to a barricade on this street and the driver put it in reverse. The waiter began hitting on the driver's side window and yelling for them to stop but the van changed directions and drove south on Pacific Coast Highway. The total bill was about $50 and the group left only a $10 bill.

FLEEING THE BANK. Two people reportedly fled a bank after attempting to cash a forged check in the 1500 block of Pacific Coast Highway Nov. 26 at 3:45 p.m. According to police, a female suspect approached one of the tellers and asked him if there was a public restroom. He told her the bank did not have one, and the suspect then presented him with a check and her identification. The teller immediately noticed the check looked like a fake. He recorded the woman's thumbprint on the check and then compared the signature on the check with the real signature of the account holder that is stored on file at the bank. The signatures didn't match so he asked that his supervisor verify the check. After a second suspect entered the bank, the first suspect's demeanor began to change and she acted like she was in a hurry. The bank's supervisor took over the transaction and while trying to determine the authenticity of the check the suspects demanded it back along with the form of identification. The supervisor contacted the account holder who told her a check with the same check number had been issued in the amount of about $87 to another person and was mailed Nov. 25. Two law enforcement officers who work for the bank as security and dressed in plain clothing followed the suspects out of the bank and tried to get them to stay but they left and fled the scene in a Dodge Intrepid.

Hermosa Beach - Crime Watch (12/9)

IDENTITY THEFT. A person reportedly attempted to deposit a check in the amount of $7,900 and withdraw $4,900 from the account of a man living in the 1200 block of 21st Street Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. The victim received a call from the bank's manager who said someone tried to deposit the check and then withdraw cash from the account. The man told the bank that it wasn't him or anyone authorized to use the account. According to the victim, a previous deposit and withdrawal scam was successful for the same amount.

FRAUD. An unknown person reportedly used the credit card number of a man in Hermosa Beach Sept. 1. The crime was reported Dec. 5 when the man reviewed his credit card statement for September and October and noticed charges to his card he did not make. The man believes the card number and pin number to the card may have been compromised during a recent transaction at an ATM. The man noticed transactions completed in the Ukraine and in Rancho Mirage all on the same day. A total of about $6,200 worth of fraudulent charges were made.

STOLEN PAINTING. A man is in custody for reportedly selling a painting stolen from a gallery in the 400 block of Pier Avenue to a man on the pier plaza for $20 Dec. 4 at 7:28 p.m. A man walking his dog down to the plaza told a gallery employee that a man tried to sell him the painting. He noticed similar paintings on the sidewalk in front of the gallery to the painting he noticed sitting behind a trash barrel in front of a business on the plaza. The man picked it up, and the suspect approached him and offered to sell it to him for $20. The suspect appeared to be intoxicated. The suspect said the painting belonged to him and he would sell it. The man declined the offer and thought it unusual since he felt the painting was worth about $75. The man then walked back up to the gallery, and told the employee about the man and the painting. She told the man that if he bought it, the gallery would reimburse him. The man went back to buy the painting with the intent to give it back to the gallery.

BEATEN WITH A BEER BOTTLE. A man inside a bar on the pier plaza was reportedly hit with a beer bottle several times Dec. 5 at 1 a.m. The doorman flagged down officers about the assault in the bar. The victim told police that while he was in the bar talking to a female patron a man pushed and then hit him four times with a beer bottle. The victim has never seen the suspect and police believe the attack may have had something to do with the girl he was talking to and that she might have been associated with the suspect. The man suffered a half-inch laceration on his forehead, and a bloody and swollen nose.

Hermosa Beach - Crime Watch (12/2)

STOLEN BIKE. A cruiser bicycle valued at $300 was reportedly stolen from a parking garage on Ardmore Avenue between midnight Nov. 25 and 9 a.m. Nov. 26. The victim left the bike in the garage unlocked and returned to find it missing.

PARKING GARAGE AGGRESSION. A man reportedly shattered the window of a car driven by a woman inside a parking garage in the 1300 block of Hermosa Avenue Nov. 25 between 1:50 and 1:55 a.m. The victim told police that she was second in line to exit the garage and several drivers in the cars behind her were honking their horns impatiently because the woman in the car in front of her was taking a long time to pay and exit the garage. The victim noticed a man approach the car in front of her, get inside of it and then immediately get out. The man then approached the victim's car and began yelling profanities. It appeared the man wanted to fight for unknown reasons. The man then punched her passenger's partially open window. He then grabbed the edge of the window with his hands and used his knee to wedge it, causing it to shatter. The glass fragments exploded all over the male passenger. The suspect then returned to the car in front of the victim and fled the scene.

CAMERA THEFT. A digital camera valued at $350 was reportedly stolen from a Hermosa Beach home Sept. 1 between 8 a.m. and noon. The victim reported the incident Nov. 26 after reading a story in a local newspaper about a housekeeper who stole a ring from a house. The woman remembers seeing the camera on her bookshelf Aug. 31 and noticing it gone the next day. She had used it to download photos from a vacation she returned from Aug. 27. The woman later discovered that her cleaning company subcontracted out the same housekeeper, who is accused of stealing a ring from another home.

BATTERY. A man reportedly assaulted his girlfriend of six months in her house on Seventh Place Nov. 27 between 4 and 4:57 a.m. The woman and her boyfriend went out that night to dance and got into a verbal argument later that night. The couple left the scene their own separate ways. The woman returned to her home and about 30 minutes later her boyfriend arrived. He demanded entry but the woman refused because he was angry. A short time later, the woman went to bed and the man gained entry into her home by unknown means. The man confronted the woman while she was in bed and the couple got into a verbal dispute. He then sat on top of her, placed his two index fingers on her eyes and applied pressure in a gouging motion. He then grabbed her legs and pulled her off the bed where she landed on the floor. The victim told police that this has not happened in the past and that he is having a hard time dealing with the recent death of his daughter.

FORGERY. A man who lives in the 400 block of Herondo Street was reportedly the victim of fraud between Nov. 7 and 8. The victim reported the incident Nov. 27. According to the victim, he tried to place his mail in a drop box at the post office in Redondo Beach. He did not exit his car to do so and when he put the mail inside he noticed it did not fall right away but rather stuck to the edges of the box. He thought it odd. The next day he checked his bank account and noticed that the check he put into the mail had been cashed. The victim called his bank and reviewed the original copy. The original check was made out to Mercury Casualty Company for about $310 but was later altered and made out to a woman for about $810.

Hermosa Beach – Crime Watch (11/25)

IDENTITY THEFT. An unknown person reportedly used the debit card of woman living in the 400 block of Herondo Street to buy numerous items off the Internet leaving her with insufficient funds in her bank account between Sept. 27 and Nov. 17. The woman, who leaves about $5,000 in her account at all times, told police Nov. 23 that she went to dinner in downtown Los Angeles and tried to pay with her access card. The card was declined due to a lack of funds. The woman called her bank on Monday and was advised that the account had insufficient funds. A bank representative told her about several purchases made over the Internet that she didn't make. The woman thought it would stop and didn't check her account again until early November. The woman noticed several more Internet transactions and contacted her bank again which sent her an affidavit of unauthorized debit activity.

FORGED CHECKS. A batch of checks from a business in the 400 block of Pier Avenue made out to several unidentified people in the total amount of about $5,500 were reportedly forged between Sept. 28 and Oct. 1. The owner of the business reported the incident Nov. 23 after she attempted to balance her checkbook and noticed six checks made out to the names of people she didn't recognize. The checks didn't match the original printed checks either and she didn't issue them. The signature on the checks didn't match that of the business owner. She believes the incident may have something do to with the termination of two employees.

BATTERY. A man suffered three fractured bones in his cheek after being reportedly hit in the face with a closed fist by a man at a restaurant in the 1300 block of Manhattan Avenue Nov. 21 at 1:25 a.m. The man told police he was sitting with a group of friends drinking and all he recalls is being hit in the face. He doesn't remember any kind of altercation and after the incident his friend took him to a local hospital in a taxi. The man was bleeding from the eye and had three fractured bones in the cheek area. He was soon leaving the hospital to undergo surgery in Orange County. Police looked at the surveillance video of the incident, which was fuzzy. They noticed a large group of men gathered together and the suspect was among those in the group. The suspect appeared to lean through the group of men to talk to someone who was sitting down, possibly the victim. It appears that the victim stood up toward the suspect and the suspect hit him with what appeared to be a closed fist. The suspect was then pulled away from the victim and stood alone behind the group of men. He rolled up his sleeves as if appearing like he was ready to fight. He eventually rolled down his sleeves and walked away. Based on the fact that no one confronted the suspect it appears as though both men know each other.

MISCHIEF. A car's fuel line was cut while parked in a grocery store parking lot in the 2500 block of Pacific Coast Highway between Nov. 3 and 5. The victim reported the incident Nov. 16 after she went to fuel up her car and noticed that gasoline was leaking from underneath it. Her boyfriend discovered the same problem with his car and took it to a mechanic. There he discovered that the fuel filter vent had been cut. Soon after the victim went to a mechanic and discovered the same problem. The woman suspects her husband whom she separated from Nov. 4. She spoke to her husband about the problem with her car and he then told their son he thought she was crazy for blaming him for cutting her fuel line. However, only the victim, her boyfriend and her son knew about the cause of the problem, which was that the line had been cut.

Hermosa Beach - Crime Watch (11/18)

VEHICLE BURGLARY. A vehicle parked in the 2500 block of Manhattan Avenue was reportedly burglarized Nov. 6 between 1:30 and 6 a.m. The burglar sliced through the right rear side of the plastic soft top of the vehicle and took a tote bag containing medical supplies and a cell phone.

GRAND THEFT. A diamond wedding ring was reportedly stolen from an assisted living center in the 1800 block of Pacific Coast Highway between Nov. 2 at 9 p.m. and Nov. 3 at 9 a.m. The victim placed a set of rings, including her wedding ring, in plain view on a nightstand near her bed and went to sleep. When she woke up the next morning, she noticed the diamond ring was gone, but the other rings were still there.

GRAND THEFT. A set of power and hand tools were reportedly stolen from a residence in the 800 block of Manhattan Avenue between Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. and Nov. 4 at 8 a.m. The victim left a plastic storage box with the tools next to his apartment building and apparently left the storage area under the building containing another box of tools unlocked. The box left outside was stolen as was a router and bits in the storage area. It appeared other storage areas in the building were also broken into.

BURGLARY. Approximately $855 in cash, checks and credit card receipts were reportedly stolen from a cleaners in the 1100 block of Pacific Coast Highway between Nov. 3 at 8 p.m. and Nov. 4 at 7:55 a.m. The burglar pried open the service corridor door to gain entry and then forced open a cash register to take the money. The burglar ransacked the front desk area and also took an envelope on a shelf containing the store's earnings from the day before.

PETTY THEFT. A bicycle was reportedly stolen from behind a bar in the 900 block of Monterey Boulevard between Nov. 1 at 10 p.m. and Nov. 2 at 1:30 a.m. The purple cruiser was chained to a street sign.

Hermosa Beach - Crime Watch (11/11)

CAR BURGLARY. A 2000 Jeep Wrangler was reportedly burglarized between 1:30 and 6 a.m. Nov. 6. The victim parked the car and returned to find that the rear plastic window had been cut. The burglar(s) stole a tote bag containing medical supplies and a cellular phone all valued at $450.

ONGOING ANNOYANCE. A 1970 Toyota Landcruiser parked in the 300 block of Hopkins Avenue was reportedly vandalized with eggs and spit on it Nov. 6. The victim told police that on Nov. 1 a note with the word "eyesore" written on it was found on the windshield, and on Oct. 28 the victim received a complaint from a neighbor. The incidents occurred ever since the owner attached a "dingy" sailboat to the car.

VANDALISM. An apartment complex wall in the 700 block of Manhattan Avenue was reportedly vandalized with spray paint between 9 p.m. Oct. 28 and 1 a.m. Oct. 29. The phrases "SKLS 3" and "Menace 4" were written on the wall.

GRAND THEFT. Several items stored in a shared garage in the first block of 29th Court were reportedly stolen between 8 p.m. Oct. 30 and 10 a.m. Oct. 31. The victim shares the secured garage with a fellow apartment tenant. She left the garage and returned to find her stored belongings missing including a stereo, two jackets, vitamins and prescription drugs. The victim told police that there is a malfunction with the garage door and that either she or the other tenant must have accidentally left it slightly open. The items stolen were all valued at $1,170.

HOME BURGLARY. An unknown person reportedly stole a laptop computer from a home in the first block of Bayview Drive between 4 p.m. Oct. 29 and 9 a.m. Nov. 1. The victim, who lives with the owner of the house, left for the weekend. The owner hired a dog walker since he was also gone during the same time. The victim returned home to find his laptop missing from his bedroom that does not have a lock on the door. The burglar(s) also stole its case and a pair of eyeglasses. The stolen items are all valued at $2,620.

Hermosa Beach - Crime Watch (11/4)

STOLEN SIGN. An election sign valued at $200 was reportedly vandalized between 9 p.m. Oct. 17 and 7 a.m. Oct. 18. An unknown person threw objects filled with paint at the sign and a wall at the victim's home on Ardmore Avenue.

VISITING TOWN. A rental car belonging to two people visiting town from Northern California was reportedly burglarized in a public parking structure in the 1300 block of Hermosa Avenue between 11:30 a.m. and 12:05 p.m. Oct. 21. The suspect(s) smashed a rear window of the car and then gained access into the trunk. The two victims flew into LAX and drove to Hermosa to have lunch on the pier plaza. When they returned, they discovered their property missing. The burglar(s) stole a camera, briefcase, clothing, a wallet, architecture drawings, a backpack and miscellaneous items all valued at about $560.

DAMAGED BMW. A 2002 BMW X5 was reportedly burglarized in the private garage of a man living in the first block of Ninth Street between 2 and 10 a.m. Oct. 23. The victim said he returned home from a friend's house in Venice, parked his car in the garage and didn't lock the car. He closed the garage door but did not lock it and the alarm was automatically activated in the car. The man returned to find his wallet missing, the glove box open and his windows smashed. The neighbor said she saw some people around the garage in the early morning who looked suspicious. Police asked why anyone would break the windows when the car was unlocked and if the man had been involved in any kind of recent altercation with someone he knew. The man said that night he visited his friends in Venice (a couple) at their home and met a woman who was there. The couple was trying to set him up with the woman since he recently split with his wife. The victim and woman were both talking and drinking, and eventually became intoxicated. They began to talk about politics and the conversation became a heated argument. The man's friends asked him to leave to alleviate the situation, and so he drove home and went to sleep. The man said he was in such a deep sleep he didn't hear the alarm sound.

LIFTED WALLET. A woman's wallet was reportedly lifted from her purse by two men in a supermarket in the 1100 block of Pacific Coast Highway between 1 and 1:30 p.m. Oct. 26. The woman said she was in the store's meat department when a man asked her opinion about a steak. She believes the other man who was with him unzipped her purse and took her wallet containing personal information and $250 in cash. The woman said it happened so fast she didn't notice the wallet missing until she went to pay for her items.

SPOUSAL ABUSE. A man was arrested after he reportedly hit his former girlfriend in the back of the leg with an empty glass in the 1900 block of Pacific Coast Highway Oct. 24 at 10:20 p.m. The woman said she went over to her former boyfriend's house to retrieve a few surfboards and the couple, which had dated for four months, got into an argument about one of the surfboards. The man attempted to throw a drink at the woman as she walked down some stairs but he said he missed. The man then hit her with a glass in the back of the leg, causing redness. The man admits to throwing the glass but that it did not hit her.
